I was introduced to automation and control systems straight out of university through training on a legacy Allen Bradley SLC 5/02 controller. I was trained not only in ladder logic and configuration of the unit, but to be a facilitator on an introductory PLC course for offshore operators.
Control systems come in two major flavours, the Distributed Control System (DCS) and the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The major differentiator between the two are in the number of Input / Output points, numbering in the thousands to tens of thousands, and from tens to thousands, respectively. Other major difference is that the programming environments for the DCS tends to be a singular Integrated Development Environment (IDE), while a PLC system requires typically much more work to put disparate pieces together: the PLC itself, communication protocols, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and the historian. These differences are somewhat blurred today thanks to technological advancements that has made the PLC catch up to the DCS in many areas.

Let Me Work With You!
You can engage with me at any stage of development, commissioning and start-up, from conceptualisation, specification, Field and Site Acceptance Tests, audits, system integration. I am very comfortable with Rockwell Automation Factory Review and Studio HMI and Control and MicroLogix environments, Emerson Delta V BCS and SIS, and with flow computer configuration, SCADA and custody transfer systems.
